Joy in Birthing

“I was nineteen years old and rubbing my belly, praying to God that my birthing experience would be a great one. A couple of months later, my prayers were answered. A wonderful woman by the name of Giuditta Tornetta offered to be my Doula. With both our hearts’ passion towards a natural birthing experience, I gratefully accepted… Instead of being unaware of all that I was going through, Giuditta let me know ahead of time what I’d be feeling, from contractions ten minutes apart to “the ring of fire.” Giuditta made me realize that a woman is built for the beauty of birth. I never knew i had so much strength inside me. We went for a walk, later she massaged my back. When I thought I couldn’t take it anymore, there she stood with a smile and a warm towel to place on my lower belly. She told me with a soothing tone that Leela was ready, so through my pain I knew I’d see my little girl soon. In the bath, I cried throughout my contractions, I wanted to head towards the hospital and take whatever drug they offered. She reminded me that this was not what I wanted to do. Although I was weak and full of tears, she remained calm, peaceful, beautiful and wise. If it was not for her, I would have melted with pain while getting to ten centimeters on a lonely hospital bed. We finally arrived at the hospital when I was eight centimeters. I thank God for Giuditta, for her comfort and Doula remedies. Leela was born drug-free and healthy. Doulas are a blessing and the experience will never be forgotten. It was the spiritual event I prayed for and received. If I ever do have another baby, by God’s grace, Giuditta will be by my side.”
