Month 1
This is the month where you understand where you come from.
Your child 4 – 8 weeks
YOUR BABY NOW
The fertilized egg has made its seven-to-ten-day trip to the uterus, where it has implanted snugly into the endometrial surface. It is now called a blastocyst, and it has divided into two parts: one is forming the placenta, and the other will become the embryo. The two layers that make up the amniotic bag of waters are newly formed, and the very beginning of the connecting stalk that will become the umbilical cord has appeared. Until your placenta is fully functioning, the yolk sac, now present will feed your baby. The creative power has been unleashed and the life force has pure freedom of expression. The natural process of procreation is free from your logic, fear, and expectation. Your womb is gearing up. The energy required to provide for the new life is tremendous. Your biochemistry is changing rapidly. There is primordial joy: your womb has been called to do the job for which it was created.
You are no longer just a woman, you are becoming a mother. The transformation is subtle and irreversible. This new life form has not yet defined itself as an individual, and you are yet to fully conceive of yourself as a mother. Your partner, too, is going through a great transformation. No longer a “single” human being, he/she is becoming a parent. The miracle unfolds! It’s time for welcoming. Come together with your loved one and read the following welcoming prayer to your baby as often as you can.
Welcome to the world, my love; we have been waiting for you.
We are so happy you are here.
You are the perfect expression of our love for each other.
We recognize your sacredness.
We know you will teach us a great deal
And we offer you all that we have,
All the love we can provide⎯unconditionally.
You will be free to be as special as you are meant to be.
The right to have and be here
What we have heard, what we have been told by our families, our cultures and our peers might not reflect what we want for ourselves and our child. We must affirm, own and embrace our right to have the birthing experience we desire and deserve. By welcoming this child into this world from the very beginning and affirming his right to have all that is necessary to thrive not just survive, we create a self-confident human being.
